The Prey

You are possessed by a constant awareness of just how in danger you are in this world of monsters and unseen terrors. Over the years you have learned to contain your fear, but when your stress gets the better of you, you can transform into a lithe, sinewy hare whilst retaining your self awareness (for roleplay ease, it is recommended this effect triggers perhaps only once or twice). When you transform, your clothes change with you. Under stress, you see the world as if in slow motion, and can almost blur to the human eye.

Long Description: The change flirts with your shoulders, your haunches, the scroll of your tongue. Clothes feel like an enormous tic. You used to rip them off and throw them against a tree - at least until you learned how to transform with them on - before splashing your hot and overfull face at the edge of a cold creek. Full moons are the worst; you're almost compelled to transform. At all other times you have good control over your gift. Unusually so, for a captive at this auction. That’s probably why they’ve chained you with magic.

Even in human form, the acute senses of the hare are yours. You can actually sense when you are in danger from supernatural creatures, even if they are creatures you cannot see - though in many cases this is purely terrifying. Your sight, hearing and smell are far more sensitive than a normal human's, as powerful even as level one Auspex (a vampire’s power, able to enhance the five senses). When you move, you possess a natural grace and coordination - you are sure of your feet and know how to make use of natural terrain to your advantage. You are fast too - much faster than a normal human. If trained, you would make an incredible dancer or athlete.

There is a bitter side to swallow of your "gift" however, as there seems to be with so many of the souls who have been taken captive for this auction. Your inner animal is always there, so close to the surface that it leaves you perpetually stressed, on guard, aware and awake. You've developed stomach ulcers and indigestion, sleep irregularities and outright insomnia.

Around the full moon if you don't transform you're left at your all time highest for stress - your body practically vibrates under the effort to stay calm, shaking with sweat. You jump at everything. Only the new moon brings with it a sense of lethargy that is enough to dampen your ordinarily painful state of awareness. You're unable to settle into relationships and even the most hands-off friendships, feeling forever trapped and claustrophobic. You loathe being constrained, captive and controlled, and really your mind will perceive it even where there is good intention. Little to say, you will suffer under the auction’s captivity, and vampiric control.

It might be the strain of everything this year, one thing after another, but your blood responded: now, you are able to flee with greater speed than ever before, so fast you practically blur to the naked eye. When you’re in danger the world moves as if in slow motion, but any  magical restraints prevent you from tapping into not only your beautiful new ace card, but also your transformations, leaving you panicked and in pain.

Maybe you’ve been in captivity already - a circus for freaks or some other cruel act - or perhaps you’ve been hiding out in the wilds, unable to live a normal life in a world so bloated with noise and colour and stimuli.
